Advise for patient with Head Injury, How to observe the symptoms at home
The Physician has examined the patient and concluded that the patient has Head Injury. But the condition of the patient does not need to be hospitalized. Thus, the physician advised the patient to continue to rest at home and stop all exercising and driving. The diet should be soft and tender. Stop taking all drugs that cause drowsiness at least 24 hours. Stop drinking beverage that contains alcohol at least 3 day after the accident. Patient should also avoid being contact to heat and fire.
During this time, if the patient has a minor head-ach, please take the pain killer that the physician has prescribed. Using a cold substance to put on the wound or put on where it is swelling is permitted. If the wound do not stop swelling please bring the patient back to the hospital for the physician to examine. The care taker should be able to notice any unusual symptom and know how to care for patient for at least 24 hours. With-in the first 24 hours, the care taker should wake the patient up every 2 - 4 hours, to determine the condition of the patient if he/she is getting weaker or not.
If the patient has one of the following symptoms, please bring the patient back to see the physician immediately.
| The patient becomes more dull and dozy or hard to gain consciousness. | |
| The patient becomes nausea or vomiting. | |
| The patient becomes tetany or jerking. | |
| The patient has liquid or blood coming out of the nose or ear. | |
| Even though the patient has taken the pain killer but the head ach is very painful. | |
| The patient feels weak and numb at the arms and legs. | |
| The patient is confused and behaving abnormally. | |
| The patient is feeling vertigo, dim eyes, double vision, the pupil is not equally opened and has unusual eye-goggle. | |
| The patient has a fever or the pulse rate is very low. The patient feels pain and stiffen in the neck, and also difficult to bend it. | |
| The patient is nervous and abnormal speech and other suspicious abnormal behavior. |

You can protect your head from injury by :
1. Wear the helmet.
2. Wear the seat belt.
3. Do not use alcohol or drugs while driving or operating machinery.
